Dental Assistants play a critical role in dentist’s offices across the country. They not only help dentists during examinations, but also perform important administrative tasks and help promote good health. As a Dental Assistant, you’ll benefit from regular day–time hours, paid time off, better job security and more.
With the training provided in expanded functions students will be able to perform, under the supervision of a dentist, the following tasks; clinical charting, oral hygiene instruction, obtaining bacteriological specimens, polish clinical crowns, take and pour alginate impressions, place/remove periodontal dressing, apply topical fluorides, apply topical anesthetics, suture removal, polish amalgam restorations, place/remove matrix, place and remove temporary restorations, apply liners, varnish and bases, fabricate/cement temporary crowns, apply sealants.
Your Dental Assistant training will include:
- Preparing the patient for treatment
- Supporting dentists during procedures
- Preparing tray setups
- Sterilizing and disinfecting instruments and equipment
- Taking X-ray examinations
- Obtaining dental records
The Dental Assistant program at Meridian College provides extensive hands-on training including an externship at a dental office where you will assist the dentist to treat actual patients.
